Il Fenomeno in high spirits as he continues rapid road to recovery

Ronaldo’s recovery continues to surprise the medicine men. Less than 40 days after having surgery on his left knee, the Milan striker can already bend it to 60 degrees.

His rapid progress has left him in good spirits, as was apparent to anyone who saw him at Milan’s training round on Wednesday.

“We use Milan’s facilities every two days as part of Ronaldo’s treatment programme,” said his physiotherapist Bruno Mazziotti. “It’s not just good for his (physical) recovery, it’s also good because it gives him a chance to spend time with his teammates and stay involved at the club.”

As he confirmed last week, Ronaldo is no longer contemplating retiring from the game. So the physiotherapy sessions have one clear aim: a return to full fitness so that he can play at the top level once more.

“Because he has come on so well since the operation- and that is the hardest period - Ronaldo has said that a full recovery is possible and very probable.

“All we need to do is make that happen,” added Mazziotti, who said he wants to wait until the first phase of treatment is completed before drawing firm conclusions.

“The first phase lasts for around two months,” he said. “In other words, it is due to be completed in a few days. Then we’ll be in a position to more clearly analyse the possibilities.”
