It's unfortunate...but it was bound to happen.
The whole football world was saddened by this terrible news of Ronaldo and were heartbroken to see 'The Great ONE' fall down on the pitch crying in agony and pain grabbing his knees. It's like history was repeating itself but this time Ronaldo wears RED instead of BLUE. What got to me though is the thought that Ronaldo might feel this is the end of his illustrious career in the football pitch as a professional player with all the constant injuries that he's been plagued with. And in that moment the 'FOOTBALL' would cry and so would 'millions' of his supporters.

What Ronaldo meant for us (his supporters) and football in general:

Some of us were blessed to have watched true greats from past era such as Pele, Cruyff and Maradona, and from this modern era players like Zidane, Rivaldo, Baggio, Maldini etc. We all loved them despite comparison being made by their respective fans, but truth is all of them were great and were joy to watch. Can't separate them; can't belittle their accomplishments.

The HEART loves everything that is beautiful and the EYE sees many. RONALDO is our EYE that we see with. An eye that we see 'beauty' and 'joy' in them, the magic, the entertainment, and the phenom, that is RONALDO LUIS DE LIMA. Who can forget the skinny kid that took the football world by storm at the age of 19? Who can forget that? Who can forget his legendary days at Barcelona and Inter? Those days were magic...Who can forget world cup 98 and the Copas? Who can forget Japan....aaah does Japan ring a bell guys? It does and it stutters Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrronnnnaldoooooooo. Who can forget his classic performance at Old Trafford and the standing ovation that he received, who can forget those moments?

How will Ronaldo be remembered?

If you don't have him in the upper tier with Pele and Maradona then you lost for life. He might not be superior to them but he's definitely not inferior either. He's on their level and I personally rate him FIRST. He's the best player I've seen play. What I loved about him as a player is his pace, power, dribbling skills, finishing and calmness in front of goal. the fact that he could turn a game outcome in a moment of brilliance is a testament to his greatness. He was so technically gifted and blessed with supernatural talent that if it wasn't for those injuries we'd be talking RONALDO.......then the rest.

Ronaldo should be remembered as your ultimate number 9 striker (the best ever) that every young kid that loves this game should look up to as a role model on the football pitch. Putting his career into perspective, he simply defines #9.

What have others said regarding Ronaldo's latest injury (including his peers and managers)

Fabian Bartez (France goal keeper): "The greatest striker in the last 25 years, the only strikers that I've feared, he can do whatever he wishes in front of goal and shoots the ball with precision and power, and his dribbling ability plus his pace is extraordinary" I think of him and respect him to the fullest".

Capello: "The greatest i've coached even better than Van Basten"

Ronaldinho: "I've watched it on t.v and i'm saddened by this news"

more to come on the way as i'm a bit lazy to post all and translate. News that he will be out for at least 9 months so putting all the retirement talk aside...

Is this end of O Fenomeno? Is this the end of the Boy Wonder, THE NUMBER 9, The Keeper's nightmare, THE KID, Is this the end of arguably the greatest football player of all-time......Or there will be a third coming of IL Phenomenon? I'm leaning towards the last part of the question but only RONALDO have the finale say this.....so lets wait and see if he still have the will and motivation to RETURN.

I put alot of work into this topic and I hope the moderators don't disappoint me and close it or merge it somewhere. I want this to remain in the legend forum cuz Ronaldo defines that term perfectly.

Back to topic, what are the defining moments in RONALDO's career? What Ronaldo meant for you personally and do you think this is the END or you still have some hope that he will close out his career in a better fashion?
